West Bridgewater, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/13/2011 -- Nuclead Co. Inc., a leader in shielding technology, lead material and lead flashing, fabrication and services, announced today the receipt of an order by a Major East Coast General Contractor. The lead flashing is fabricated per blue prints provided by the customer; and the items were specially designed in a 3 dimensional manner. They will be used in a restoration project, so tolerances are extremely critical.

Nuclead is one the few suppliers of lead products who also has the capability to both supply lead flashing and to fabricate to the tolerances required by this order.

Lead flashing has been used in roofing systems to eliminate leaks at intersections and roof edges. Particularly in the case of historic building restoration, where it is necessary to replace existing flashing, it is most important to match both the style and functionality of the original roofing structure

The most common locations for lead roof flashing include Roof joints, valley flashing, chimney flashing, and roof penetrations such as lead roof jacks.

Lead flashing materials are popular particularly in northern climes as they are soft and easy to bend to shape, durable and weather resistant. Lead flashing is also able to accommodate movement between adjoining components.

Lead chimney flashing is particularly well suited to the task, since it easily accommodates any movement caused by the settling of the chimney foundation which is often separate from the main house foundation. Proper use of lead flashing around chimneys includes two layers. The first called “step flashing”, involves sections of L-shaped lead roof flashing which are lapped up the side of the chimney. Secondly, lead counter flashing is folded down to cover the top of the lead step flashing.

All of the Nuclead Co. Inc. items for the project will be delivered in one release by the end of the calendar year. “These items close tolerances are specially machined. With our sophisticated Cad-Cam, CNC centers, QC equipment and Proprietary production control system; along with our experienced craftsmen; The General Contractor has elected to continue using us to fabricate many projects over the years," said Dennis M. Raymondo, Nuclead Co. Inc.’s Chief Operations Manager. “Nuclead has been providing these types of products to this particular customer since 2009. We believe we are most capable of providing a quality product on budget and delivering them on time…all the time,” he said.
