Springfield, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/25/2012 -- JMK BMW in Springfield, New Jersey is taking the time to become an energy efficient dealership to help protect the environment. They have built a new dealership with several environmentally friendly features.

The average person might believe that the worldwide push to “go green” is coming solely from politicians and concerned citizens. In fact, this is not the case. In recent years, many big-name companies have realized their way towards more sustainable and eco-friendly business practices.

Along with big name companies like Target, Wal-Mart, Dell, Coca-Cola and many more, JMK BMW is taking the right steps to become a well-known “Green” business. In October 2009, the final construction project of their new BMW dealership was completed. In this process, JMK BMW installed UV resistance glass which is highly tinted and reduces heat from the sun, which in the end helps to reduce the dealership’s energy usage in summer months. They have also included motion sensor lighting, high speed garage doors to eliminate loss of heating or cooling when vehicles are being shuttled, and 97% of JMK BMW’s lighting fixtures have been upgraded to Compact Fluorescent Lighting to save energy as well.

In May 2011, the dealership completed another huge energy efficient feature to their already significant building. 112 KW solar panels which cover more than half of the roof of the vehicle preparation building were installed. These solar panels have generated 97.3% of the electricity for the whole building.

From May 2011 to December 2011, JMK BMW has determined that the solar panel system has generated the equivalent environmental benefit of planting 1,175 trees, driving 158,782 passenger miles in a vehicle, and saved enough energy of about 6 standard houses each year.

Going green is on the minds of a lot of people these days and most are trying to find ways to act in eco-friendly ways, but overall, businesses have the larger impact on the environment.
