It can run
In the wild, ostrich meat is much admired by the big cats but catching an ostrich for a pride of lions is a tall order as ostriches use their long legs, long necks and beady eyes to spot predators approaching a mile off. If a big cat does get close, then the ostrich can usually outrun it. The only big cat to outrun an ostrich is the cheetah but it is too small to bring down a big bird and so, unusually, the cheetah will team up with another cheetah and their combined weight is usually enough to secure a good meal for two.
