Pittsburgh BMW Dealer Excited for Arrival of All-New 2012 BMW 3 Series

Style, Luxury, Speed and Efficiency Arrive in Pittsburgh with the 2012 BMW 3 Series at P&W BMW.

Pittsburgh, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/14/2012 -- Taking cues from the successful tradition of sleek BMW design, the new 2012 BMW 3 Series Sedan sets new standards for performance, luxury, efficiency and technology.

The sixth generation model sports a wider track and wheel base and almost four additional inches in length, increasing the comfort of the passenger compartment. Despite the larger size, the sporty body structure and intelligent design results in a safer, lighter sedan, with the exact weight difference dependent upon selected engine size.

Quality materials and design define the new BMW 3 Series Sedan. The standard materials and colors highlight the sporting character, but a large selection of colors and upholstery options offer opportunities to make an individual statement. In addition to the standard trim level, the new BMW 3 Series Sedan is available in three equipment lines or an M Sport Package. The Sport Line, Luxury Line and Modern Line each use varying trim finishes, wheel variations, and interior styling show different sides to the new BMW 3 Series Sedan’s character, while the M Sport package offers sport suspension and enhanced design details.

The new BMW 3 Series Sedan will be offered with two fuel-efficient engines, both featuring the latest BMW TwinPower Turbo technology: the familiar 6-cylinder inline engine and a new-generation 4-cylinder engine. Both engines offer substantially reduced fuel consumption and emissions.

The new BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine delivers 240 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. This results in acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. The new 4-cylinder engine is modeled on the current multi-award-winning 6-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, but with its all-aluminum crankcase, this engine is lighter and more compact than a 6-cylinder of equivalent power.

The new BMW 3 Series is available in standard 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 8-speed automatic – currently not offered by any competing sedan. The efficient automatic is able achieve lower fuel consumption and emissions than the manual. Both the manual and the automatic transmission can be combined with either engine and are equipped with the Auto Start-Stop function, which switches off the engine during short stops, for further fuel savings.

Other innovative features of the 2012 BMW 3 Series include the Driving Dynamics Control switch, which allows the driver to customize accelerator response characteristics, engine response, power steering characteristics and stability controls. Drivers can select this based on situation or personal driving preference. In addition, ECO PRO mode provides the opportunity to increase fuel economy by changing the acceleration so the same pedal travel delivers less power. The automatic transmission control is also modified to upshift sooner and delay downshifts. Energy management systems reduce mechanical power usage and the consumption of electrical systems like heated mirrors and seats. Special displays let the driver know by how much the driving range is being extended, show fuel consumption history, or provide tips to drive more efficiently in the current situation. ECO PRO mode allows average fuel consumption to be reduced by up to 20%, with a corresponding increase in driving range.
