Fight Against UK Models Scam Hits New Heights

The legitimate modelling industry is ramping up its advisories in response to unscrupulous agencies that mislead prospective models in order to extract money.

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/23/2012 -- Despite continued publicity regarding the well-documented modelling scams in operation the industry as a whole has turned up the pressure on the con men by highlighting Internet based scams.

An Industry insider explains, 'The majority of the complaints we receive are now coming from people who have been misled by agencies/individuals who have used the Internet as an advertising medium. Typically these 'agencies' initially befriend or at least stimulate the interest of their victims by creating a profile on the best known social networking sites and playing on their modeling aspirations.'

There can be no doubt that the rise of the internet has been nothing short of a phenomenon in the way it links people to people, business to customers and customers to business but like many public mediums it is open to abuse.

The industry insider goes onto say, 'To all intents and purposes we are engaged in a cyber war of sorts against the perpetrators of the UK models scam. We are fighting fire with fire which means in this context that we are trying to exceed the scammers in regard to online presence, essentially trying to flood the internet with more warnings and thus increase the chances that people will see our advisories before they see the bogus advertisements.'

Although the modeling industry is seen by many as a rather fickle sector the efforts some of the legitimate agencies are making to try and safeguard people must be applauded. Although they are no doubt ultimately doing it in order to safeguard their own future fortunes it does have a measurable effect on the influence of what can only be called con artists.

The industry insider concludes by saying, 'Although some of the scams are still in operation the perpetrators can be in no doubt that we are onto them, not only through reporting their super expensive photo shoots and portfolios but also through their online activities. They should know that we will never cease exposing them and encouraging the harshest penalties on those found guilty of defrauding people.'
