TEDxSingapore: Inspiring Ideas to the MAX Debuts at Newly Opened MAX Atria at Singapore Expo

Singapore -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/28/2012 -- In conjunction with the opening of MAX Atria @ Singapore EXPO – Singapore’s first MICE venue awarded the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Platinum award – TEDxSingapore: Inspiring Ideas To The Max makes its debut April 3, 2012. The inaugural collaboration also marks TEDxSingapore’s third anniversary.

Curated by the TEDxSingapore team led by Founding Curator Dave Lim, the event is entirely community created to engage and inspire participants seeking to connect and share a diversity of ideas. A panel of seven speakers will initiate the conversation and exchanges on topics spanning environmental and sustainability issues and measures.

“With dedicated greening and sustainable initiatives incorporated at the concept stage, it is fitting that MAX Atria is the venue for this collaborative platform”, said Singex Chief Executive Officer Aloysius Arlando. ”We are confident it will be a catalyst to an invigorating exchange between the distinguished speakers and the community that is passionate about such issues”.

The panel includes Scott D. Anthony, Masami Sato, Thaddeus Lawrence, Jason Pomeroy, Michael Totten, Ananda Avalokita and Zann Huizhen Huang. From an architectural standpoint to impactful lifestyle choices, participants will also be engaged by topics highlighting how environmentally sustainable design and greening initiatives create an exceptional event experience for organisers and delegates.

Speakers are:
- Scott D. Anthony: Managing director of a consulting firm dedicated to helping organisations grow through innovation.
- Masami Sato: Co-founder of B1G1 (Buy 1 Give 1) which helps companies give back to the community and the environment.
- Thaddeus Lawrence: Adventure philanthropist who raced 1,000km in the most extreme deserts on earth to raise close to $200,000 for charity. • Jason Pomeroy: An award-winning architect who lectures and publishes widely.
- Michael Totten: Chief Advisor at Conservation International – an environmental non-profit organisation.
- Ananda Avalokita: Founder and Director of Positive Events, a special events agency focusing on green events.
- Zann Huizhen Huang: Self-taught photographer whose works on Iran were shown at Reportage Australia in 2010 and the seventh Angkor Photo Festival 2011.

“Singapore built its early success on the import and export of goods in the 19th century. In the 21st century, it’s the trading of ideas globally that has the greatest value and will set countries apart”, said Dave Lim, TEDxSingapore Founding Curator. “TEDxSingapore focuses on curating a diverse range of topics, speakers and attendees. This in turns enables the community to engage in meaningful conversation – potentially sparking even more thought and ideas”.

Managed by Singex Venues Pte Ltd, the 12,700sqm MAX Atria features 32 column-free rooms with spacious foyers, a garden courtyard and rooftop space. The new convention wing accommodates over 3,500 people in a variety of spaces spanning meetings, conferences, banquets, light exhibitions and product launches.

Throughout the venue, natural light is complemented by verdant landscaping, architecture and interiors appointed with energy efficient measures. Additionally, MAX Atria is outfitted with Green Label certified products and products with at least 30 percent recycled material. The energy-efficient Xirrus Arrays, which power up a patented Wi-Fi connectivity, require fewer access points and less cabling to be installed; contributing to the venue’s sustainability efforts. Complementing the operational and service excellence is a customised scentscape and soundscape to invigorate the visitor experience.
