Scott Tucker Wins 3rd Place in Silly Movie Summary Contest

The Seattle Times received more than 560 emails with Scott Tucker's summary for 'The Sound of Music' being one of the most popular movie choices with 21 new summaries.

Seattle, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/12/2012 -- Scott Tucker's hilarious movie summary of 'The Sound of Music' - 'Former nun finds child care job, annoys new boss with her singing' was last week selected in 3rd place by the Seattle Times in a contest to find the best silly movie summary, and now the newspaper is hoping to make the contest an annual event as it proved to be popular and successful.

The newspaper invited readers to start sending in their own 'silly movie summaries' last summer for a laugh after a copy editor noticed that the summary listed for 'Casablanca' was 'Cafe owner Rick helps an old flame and her husband escape from the Nazis in Morocco.' Scott Tucker's entry came in a close 3rd behind 'Dog won't stay in yard' for 'Lassie' and 'Lawman reluctantly goes to train station while fiancée stays home' for 'High Noon'.

Thanks to the generosity of Landmark Theatres, the contest winners will receive complimentary movie tickets as prizes, Bonny Brinkley won 10 tickets for her 'Lassie' summary, Sid Schwab won 6 tickets for his 'Nigh Noon' summary and our personal favorite, Scott Tucker's new summary for 'The Sound of Music' wins him 4 tickets.

The Seattle Times received more than 560 emails with Scott Tucker's summary for 'The Sound of Music' being one of the most popular movie choices with 21 new summaries. Because the feature generated so much interest the newspaper now plans to make the silly movie summaries an annual event. Other films that received multiple new summaries from readers were 'The Wizard of Oz' with 88, 'Star Wars' with 24 and 'Lawrence of Arabia' with 22.

The Seattle Times' movie critic Moira McDonald had the challenging task of selecting the winning summaries, and even came up with a special prize for the movie which had the most entries, 'The Wizard of Oz' had a prize just for silly new summaries and the winner of that category was Paul Shattuck, who won 2 tickets for his witty new summary - 'Lackadaisical farmhand Dorothy refuses to relinquish stolen shoes to the sister of a tornado victim'.
