Witty Movie Summary Wins Scott Tucker a Prize

Scott Tucker's witty take on 'The Sound of Music' caught peoples attention and now the newspaper plans to make the contest an annual event.

Seattle, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/26/2012 -- The Seattle Times recently ran a contest asking their readers to write a 'Silly Movie Summary' and thanks to entrant Scott Tucker's witty take on 'The Sound of Music' the newspaper now has plans to make the contest an annual event.

Tucker's entry of 'former nun finds child care job, annoys new boss with her singing' came a close 3rd behind 'Lawman reluctantly goes to train station while fiancée stays home' for 'High Noon' and overall winner 'Dog won't stay in yard' for 'Lassie'.

Thanks to Landmark Theatres, the top three summaries won complimentary movie tickets as prizes, and after the newspaper was flooded with entries, the popularity of the contest has now resulted in the paper saying it has plans to try to turn the contest into an annual event.

According to Seattle Times arts writer Paul de Barros' recent article the paper "had so much fun with this, and so did readers, we hope to make it an annual affair". He went on to say in the article that "We can't wait till next year, when we hope to launch the second annual 'Silly Summary' contest."

In what appears to be nothing more than a bit of lighthearted fun the paper mentioned other entries they liked but didn't quite make the top three.

The summary that got the ball rolling was spotted by Seattle Times Weekend Plus editor, Melissa Davis when she noticed that the summary for 'Casablanca' listed in the daily TV picks was 'Cafe owner Rick helps an old flame and her husband escape from the Nazis in Morocco.' After reading that summary and laughing she thought maybe the readers might like to do the same, and she was right!
