Alila Jakarta Achieves Earthcheck Bronze Status

Alila Jakarta receives bronze status from EarthCheck for its environmental practices including the implementation of their water recycling system, which has the capacity to save around 16,000 litres of water a month.

Jakarta, Indonesia -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/14/2012 -- The environmental practices of Alila Jakarta, one of Indonesia's most innovative hotels for business travellers, have been recognised by EarthCheck, with the hotel achieving bronze status. EarthCheck operates the world’s most scientifically rigorous environmental benchmarking program and measures key indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment, to provide a holistic picture of operational performance.

Benchmarking involves submitting a year’s worth of operational data to EarthCheck, and this is in turn compared with industry data collected from more than 1200 organizations in over 65 countries. By taking such a scientific approach to measuring the effectiveness of their sustainability practices, Alila Jakarta has been able to identify where they were out-performing others and where room for improvement remained.

Alila Jakarta was rated above Best Practice levels for the implementation of their water recycling system, which has the capacity to save around 16,000 litres of water a month. The hotel's other sustainability practices include saving 81000 KWH a month in electricity by sticking to a regular schedule to turn off the AC chillers, as well as the installation of LED lights in the public areas.

“I am delighted that Alila Jakarta have benchmarked their operations,” stated Stewart Moore, EarthCheck CEO. “They have recognized the need to be responsible for the impacts of their operations and transparent in their environmental statements.” By undertaking benchmarking with EarthCheck, Alila Jakarta has joined other industry leaders who have demonstrated a willingness to take meaningful steps towards resolving some of the very real issues that face the planet."

Eric Faivre, General Manager, Alila Jakarta added, "As a group, Alila is committed to a vision of environmental sustainability and like every hotel within the portfolio, the Jakarta hotel Alila Jakarta too is striving to constantly improve its green efforts. EarthCheck provides the perfect system and guidelines in our quest."
