Norwich, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/22/2009 -- It doesn't always happen this way, but the story of Amanda Annan's path into a modelling career shows how with the right looks and a bit of luck, you can find success in no time at all.
The Ghanaian-British supermodel was just 16, working in a part time job in a clothing store, when she was spotted by a talent scout. Less than a fortnight later, she was working as a model.
Annan's first campaign was for Vidal Sassoon, and shortly after that she was winging her way around the world to appear in photo shoots and on runways in fashion capitals like London, Paris, Milan and New York.
Given the remarkable way in which she found herself becoming a model, it's no surprise that she has been known to say that she did not choose modelling, modelling chose her.
“Not many people can expect to start their career in modelling as quickly as Amanda Annan, but it certainly does happen that way sometimes,” says Damian O'Connor, Managing Director of Models Direct, one of the UK’s largest modelling agencies.
“If you've got the right look and the right attitude, things can move very fast,” says O'Connor. “A model's attitude is very important. Clients want to work with someone who is totally professional, and someone who understands what they are trying to achieve on the shoot.”
Since she got her break, Annan has appeared on the covers of top magazines including Elle, Women to Women, Photo Magazine and Fashion News. She has also had the opportunity to try her hand at acting and broadcasting.
She has also used her high profile to support a number of charities. “I tend to do a lot with children’s charities,” she says. “I am an Ambassador for One Lap top per child, which is a charity that provides laptops for children across the world, I started a small charity called ETC with a friend of mine and we are in the early stages of putting it all together.”
