IIChE-MRC Announces AQUA2009 a Resource Development Programme on Wastewater Management at Holiday Inn, Goa

Mumbai, Maharashtra -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/26/2009 -- There is an increasing requirement for all our environmental solutions to demonstrate that they are the most sustainable approach, in order to ensure that solution to one problem is not simply the cause of another that future generations will require to resolve.

The above confronts the industry with two dilemmas; that it must make a huge financial investment to provide engineered solutions and that these must be delivered in an affordable and sustainable way. Should this involve the provision of innovative solutions or are existing processes adequate? In an accountancy-driven industry it might be argued that a period of consolidation with a better understanding of the performance and costs of existing assets is the most cost effective way forward. The present business climate perhaps lends more support to this cautious approach than it does to a research and development-driven industry that delivers efficiencies and cost savings through sustainable process innovation. Yet when considering the vast sums that will be invested, innovative solutions could generate significant savings both in capital and operating expenditure.

This year’s theme will be about understanding the existing asset base, identifying the needs for innovation in wastewater management, and will have an expanded focus on infrastructure and technologies in the wastewater management industry.

AQUA2009 has attracted assured participation by major industry leaders including Dow Chemicals, Ion Exchange, Weston Solutions, Ciba Geigy, GE Water and EIMCO-EWT. Distinguished speakers from these companies will present their experience and insight in industrial water management.

AQUA2009 this year is drawing strong support from the departments of Science and Technology, academia and institutions. The leaders and their teams will be present to share their insights on the water policy framework, development trends and opportunities. Mr. A.D. Saraf the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board -RO said that this award will mark a beginning of innovation in the Industry and raise standards of technical competence.

AQUA2009 features the proposed annual Bhageerath Award, to recognize excellence in the field of water and wastewater management. Invited case studies compete for three cash awards totaling Rs. 1.75 lakhs. The case studies have been received from leading corporate houses of the country, and these will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges from academia and industry and the four best case studies will be shared with the Industry at the Conference.

Technology Section will comprise of topics like systematic Approach for an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plan , Electro-Oxidation techniques in Wastewater treatment, MBR technology – Recycle – Reuse, Trace ion removal and Recovery from waste using Ion Exchange resins, Low Fouling Membranes in Wastewater treatment , Ozonation an effective method for reducing TOC, Coagulation and Flocculation mechanism and techniques.
