LPU Introduces 12 New Courses in Hotel Management

University aims the programmes to meet specific needs of industry, offers a novel blend of hospitality management attached with MBA

 

Chandigarh, UT -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/05/2009 -- New session has been welcomed with fresh targets and enhanced vision; Lovely Professional University has taken a step towards the same and is coming up with new courses in hospitality studies. With an aim to train students in various aspects of hospitality management coupled with an increased stress on specialization, the courses have been designed catering to a particular facet of the discipline. The University has come up with nearly half a dozen courses at diploma, graduation and post graduate level with respect to Hotel Management and allied sciences.

A course named BHMCT-MBA Integrated programme has been started, which allows students to pursue a professional degree in hotel management and catering technology, further attached with an MBA programme. This will facilitate students to acquire not only the technical skills of hospitality management; but also to equip himself with management of associated features like operational, human resource, financial management and marketing management. In the wake of international brands in Indian hotel industry, there has been a spurt in demand of professionals acquainted with culturally diverse hotel management practices ranging from culinary arts to hospitality management. To address this need, LPU has introduced BHMCT International (with international exposure) and B Sc Hospitality Management (with twinning programme). The former will entail students visiting foreign countries in USA/Europe and a South East Asian country for industrial training, while the latter allows students to complete one part of his programme at foreign university and earn an international degree.

B Sc (Airlines, Tourism and Hospitality) is another new programme introduced by LPU which allows students to build a promising career in aviation sector. The curriculum of this course is more inclusive and need-based, in comparison to many diploma programs being offered in Air Hostess training studies.

M.Sc (Nutrition & Dietetics) is another programme, which focuses on development of skills in dietary management, and lays emphasis on development of clinical diagnostic skills.

Chancellor Ashok Mittal while explaining the rationale behind introduction of new courses in hospitality sector said, “There are very few sectors in India which have registered such voluminous growth as hospitality. Indian hospitality industry is aligning its standards with the best of global benchmarks and this has a lot of healthy repercussions for aspiring young professionals.” He went on to add, “It has to be noted that quality services come with great degree of specialization and we are trying to address industry needs by introducing specialized courses with specific attributes.” As of now, the department of Hotel Management is buttressing its drive to promote their students by infusing entrepreneurial skills amongst them by providing hands-on training by undertaking projects like in-house cafe, travel desk etc.
