Weston, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/24/2009 -- After 14 years of steady growth, The Sagemont School has developed into one of South Florida’s leading private school’s. With recent additions and successes the school’s goal of delivering the best possible preschool through 12th grade education has been pushed to even greater heights.

Sagemont’s elementary school program recently received the distinction of being one of just over 300 schools designated as a founding chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society. Sagemont's preschool through 5th grade has also been recognized for offering an innovative Spanish program that is geared to both non-native and native speakers.

In August, both Sagemont campuses opened their doors with an assortment of new items to further the school’s commitment to technology. For the elementary school student’s, 70 new computers were purchased and the cafeteria had a complete make-over, with professional theater lights and a projection system. The middle school and high school curriculum was enhanced by a wider use of Promethean software applications along with Ativeslates (interactive whiteboards) and Promethean ActivExpressions (hand-held interactive communication devices).

In a time when teacher layoffs and decreases in arts funding are rampant, Sagemont has hired a new drama instructor which will have a positive impact on student drama productions and competitions. The athletics department also continues to expand with the addition of a coach plus new weight training and conditioning offerings.

The Sagemont School is committed to following a proven college-prep model from elementary through high school graduation. The school promotes a balance of solid academics, extra-curricular activities and community service. Standout achievements in extracurricular activities include the 2009 4th & 5th grade Odyssey of the Mind team performing at the state level competition. Sagemont also had a number of middle school winners at the Broward County Science Fair, and winners from all age levels in the City of Weston Art Contest. The high school Thespian students represented their school at the state level, and in athletics the varsity boys’ tennis team won their 6th straight district title and the boys’ basketball team also won a district title. When it comes to community service, Sagemont always tries to top its efforts. 2009 brought the newly established Sagemont Kids Helping Kids foundation which raised more than $9,000 for childhood cancer research and support and the upper school campus Environmental Club succeeded in saving 32.9 acres of rain forest through fundraising and building awareness. Academically, Sagemont excels more with each passing year. Gayle Iacono, Principal at the Upper School Campus states “A differentiating factor for our middle and high school is our individualized college entrance guidance. We start this program in 6th grade. The pay-off for following and excelling in this college-prep model is that each year our graduates have received an impressive array of outstanding college acceptances.”

In Preschool through Grade 5, The Sagemont School provides core concepts in a creative environment combined with weekly specials that include science, art, music, Spanish for non-native & native speakers, swimming, PE and media and technology.
