Woodstock, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/23/2010 -- Glenn Garrison, owner of GariSun Strategies, a product and event management, marketing, and consulting agency, who serves currently as an editor with the Atlanta Soccer News media, was named Vice President for the Board of Directors for the Georgia State Soccer Association (GSSA) on March 25. Georgia Soccer (GSSA) is the coordination, service and de facto governance authority for soccer in the state of Georgia, and is the authorized state youth and adult association for Georgia within the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA); United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA); and through them is part of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
The Vice President position serves to represent all of the association member leagues of the GSSA Adult affiliates. There is another Vice President position on the board, which oversees the same for the Youth league affiliates of GSSA. Mr. Garrison received unanimous election to the position from a voting quorum of GSSA adult soccer league representatives present, as well as from his voting peers on the state soccer board.
He has been involved with Georgia soccer in the capacity of player, coach, or league director since his move to Atlanta in 1988, give or take a year or two when he moved away for work or studies, but each time found his way back to the Peach State’s capital city. Having been a four-year starter in Division III NCAA soccer, his adult soccer years have found him as a member of teams in the ADASL, Roswell, and CASL affiliate leagues of GSSA from the early nineties to the present. Also in recent years, he was a league Director for the then Cobb YMCA, (now part of Metro Atlanta YMCA) at which time, along with a group of dedicated volunteers, he began the first youth select soccer program for the branch. During this timeframe, he also received his certifications for the U.S. Soccer National “D” and National Youth coaching licenses, and the National YMCA Sports Director Certification. Prior to the appointment to the Vice President position on the GSSA Board, he served all of 2009 in a Director position on the GSSA board as well. He holds a Masters of Sports Business Administration from Georgia State University. “I am extremely excited about this opportunity to represent the GSSA Adult affiliate leagues in their best interests at the state and national levels, for the good and growth of the game of soccer that has been my sport, hobby, and passion since I was seven,” said Mr. Garrison.
