Job Market Trying to Recover in Philadelphia; PhiladelphiaCrossing Adds Nearly 10,000 Jobs

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/24/2010 -- The recent slowdown in the job market had affected Philadelphia to a considerable extent, but now the picture of the job market is getting slightly better. According to the city council report, the projected workforce by June 2010 is set to be 23,244. The workforce is the largest since 2004, and is up by 133 workers since the advent of the recession. Meanwhile, PhiladelphiaCrossing (http://www.PhiladelphiaCrossing.com), a job-research service catering exclusively to job seekers in Philadelphia, has massively enhanced its efforts to locate every job opening.

“PhiladelphiaCrossing added about 10,000 jobs in the second week of May while there are more than 29,000 jobs that can be found on the site,” says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of PhiladelphiaCrossing.

For Registerd Nurses, the job market is said to be fantastic in Philadelphia. According to analysts, they are always in demand because of the baby boomer population. For RNs in Philadelphia, which is also the home of the first hospital in the US, the average annual salary is about $61,719, while the average hourly wage is $33.40. For entry level RNs with an associate degree, the annual salary is $40,000 to $50,000.

According to Katherine Gajewski, director of Philadelphia's Office of Sustainability, as reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer that an economic recovery is needed so that family-supporting green jobs can be created and the city can be made the clean tech hub in the North East if efforts are put in the right direction.

“The downturn had a nasty effect on the job market of Philadelphia. But now, efforts are made for jobs to be added at a frantic pace. But what poses a difficulty for freshers and even experienced job seekers is where to look for them. There are cluttered job boards everywhere but there are no focused and niche job boards which post jobs according to the needs of the job seekers. PhiladelphiaCrossing aspires to be the job board which can aggregate all jobs in Philadelphia, and till now has met with considerable success.” adds Barnes.

Luckily, PhiladelphiaCrossing has expanded its research horizons to meet the needs of job seekers in Philadelphia. The website currently lists 29,000-plus jobs in its database belonging to all domains and industries. These jobs have been collected from more than 8,000 job boards and 250,000 employer websites. “We aim to add more jobs from all possible sources, including all the hidden jobs,” adds Barnes.

Unlike other job-search and career sites, PhiladelphiaCrossing weeds out spam and jobs outside one’s niche, allowing job seekers to search efficiently and specifically for Philadelphia. PhiladelphiaCrossing also allows employers/recruiters to post jobs for free on the site. For more information on PhiladelphiaCrossing, please visit http://www.PhiladelphiaCrossing.com
