Matt Bell and Mike Sweeney Driving For GM, Romeo Kapudija and Jan-Dirk Lueders Driving For Alex Job Racing

Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/21/2010 -- P1 Groupe announces that some of its top drivers will be racing this weekend at The American Le Mans Series Monterey presented by Patron at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Racing for Alex Job Racing will be American Le Mans sensations, Romeo Kapudija and Jan-Dirk Lueders who wowed fans earlier this year at Sebring finishing on the podium during the famed 12-hours. As well, P1 Groupe is proud to be working with Tom Weickardt who will be driving the Genoa Racing LMP-C entry at this event. Weickardt was a team-owner/driver in the series from 2000 to 2006 and owned the team that P1 Groupe President Eric Burch managed for several seasons.

Fan favorites, Matt Bell and Mike Sweeney, who is a Monterey resident will be on hand working for General Motors introducing their new line of cars to the media and fans. This weekend’s race will be the ALMS’ first six-hour race at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and is expected to attract racing fans from across the nation. All of the P1 Groupe’s drivers are looking to build upon their strong record so far this season.

“We are excited that some of our top talent will be racing at this inaugural event at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca,” said Eric Burch, President of P1 Groupe. “Romeo and Jan-Dirk set off the season for Alex Job’s return to the ALMS at Sebring this year and continued their strong run at Long Beach and will build upon that momentum at Monterey. Matt and Mike are both up-and-coming talents in racing who are continuing to make their mark on the sport not only with their driving prowess, but also interaction with the fans, making them instant favorites in the sport.”
The American Le Mans Series Monterey presented is by Patrón. There will be 36 cars representing four classes on the grid for main race on Saturday. In addition to a new six-hour format - compared to four hours from 2004 to 2009 - the event date shifts from fall to spring: May 21-23.

Kapudija's racing resume includes the GRAND-AM Series, top 10 finishes at Sebring and Petit Le Mans in the ALMS, as well as starts in the Toyota Atlantic Series. Lueders is making his mark in America after an extensive racing career in Europe. Monterey, California based driver Mike Sweeney got a later start for his racing career than many of his sports car racing counterparts, but his determination and focus on the sport he loves has allowed him to make up a lot of ground on his competition in a very short period of time. Matt Bell earned two GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge victories during 2009 Grand Sport season with a series record-tying five pole position starts and finished a career-best third in 2009 Continental Tire Challenge GS points standings.
