The rush of tourists is high at the holy shrine of Badrinath where a total of 1.25 L pilgrims visited since its reopening on May 19 2010. Similarly, 70,000 pilgrims are known to have visited the Kedarnath shrine, 96,000 visited the Gangotri shrine and 62,000 visited the Yamunotri shrine during the past few days. Badrinath and Kedarnath together recorded 4 times more pilgrims than last year, in its first week of reopening this season.
Keeping in view this rush, the Uttarakhand government has now deployed tourism police all across the Chardham ( http://www.chardham-pilgrimage-tour.com/ ) tourist circuit. They have opened 46 tourist booths to ensure the safety and security of the pilgrims. The chief minister of Uttarakhand, Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has also instructed the state tourist department to strengthen its facilities in the popular tourist destinations.
The Pawan Hans and the Prabhatam, the two government run chopper airlines are making around 50 trips daily to the Kedarnath shrine which is perched at a height of about 3,584 M in the Garhwal Himalayas. Not only this, the hill resort of Nainital has its hotels running full due to the recent rush of tourists.
