Temecula, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/25/2010 -- Tom Daugherty is the big band keeper of the flame. Band leader, trombonist, musical arranger, and vocalist, has been the driving force behind The Tom Daugherty Orchestra since its inception and is now being represented by Casting New Lives ( Tom has soared his orchestra to new heights, performing his transcriptions of the original “Glenn Miller” swing music. His own Sentimental Singers perform with the band in the tradition of the original Modernairs. As a professional trombonist, Tom has performed with many outstanding groups including The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson and Dizzy Gillespie. Tom learned his craft from Dick Shearer, the lead trombonist from the Stan Kenton Orchestra.

Tom Daugherty is a stickler for arrangement details and wants to make the listening experience for his audiences as original as possible. As a matter of fact, for his Glenn Miller performances he even plays on a vintage Bach trombone, the same model used by Glenn Miller himself. The same effort is exercised when Tom uses his 1940 King trombone for his Tommy Dorsey performances. When it comes to arranging music, Tom has studied the Glenn Miller style with two former original members, Paul Tanner and Norman Leydan, Glenn Miller’s Army Air Force Band arranger and conductor of the Oregon Pops Symphony.“The Tom Daugherty Orchestra’s reputation as ‘first class’ musicians brought a sellout crowd” says Teresa Lacy, special events manager, US Air Force Museum.
