Almost 700,000 Jobs Listed by Employmentcrossing in Last Seven Days Even As Reports Predict That 3 Million People Could Lose Their Unemployment Benefits by July End

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/16/2010 -- More than 3 million people on unemployment benefits will see their benefits stopped by July end if Congress does not pass the extensions bill. Already by July 17, 2.5 million people are going to stop receiving unemployment benefits. Each week, around 400,000 people fall off the rolls.

Nationwide the unemployment rate is still 9.5 percent. Almost six million people (46%) have been unemployed for over six months. Around 1.4 million people have been unemployed for over 99 weeks. The data has been gathered from the Labor Department. The department has also reported that for every job opening, there are five applicants.

EmploymentCrossing CEO, A. Harrison Barnes acknowledges the lack of enough jobs for everybody but says “From your point of view, you just need one job, and there are almost 700,000 jobs that we have been able to find in the last seven days alone. So if you are ready to work any job in any location, you do stand a good chance of getting one.”

EmploymentCrossing is a job aggregator site. The reason EmploymentCrossing has been able to list so many jobs is that the company keeps researching not just job boards but employer sites as well for any openings and has aggregated them in a single database.

The sectors, per the EmploymentCrossing job collection, with high numbers of new openings this week are: healthcare (118,175), engineering (24,412), managerial (58,833), sales (47,036), and information technology (39,670).
