ISG Helps to Redesign Family Christian Stores Distribution Center

Sparta, MI -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/16/2010 -- Integrated Systems Group (ISG), www.integratedsysgroup.com, a division of Speedrack Products Group Ltd., is part of a company with decades of material handling experience. One of the largest companies in the industry, ISG enjoys a very strong financial position. Forward thinking engineering, design, and project management staff make it possible to design, develop, and deliver highly functional and cost-effective quality material handling systems to meet specific needs every time.

Integrated Systems Group was able to help transform Family Christian Stores with an 80,000 square foot Distribution Center, for Christian Book Retailer with over 350 Stores Nationwide, consisting of…

Broken Case Order Selection, Packing, and Shipping System
Two (2) Order Selection Modules, floor level with reserve storage
Two (2) Bin Shelving Modules, floor level with future second level
Order selection and packing conveyor system
Trash Handling conveyor system
Packing and quality assurance stations
Automatic High Speed Media Dispenser
Four (4) Automatic Print and Apply machines
UPS shipping lanes with powered trailer loaders
Pallet racking with approximately 2,600 locations

According to Gene Pryor, VP at the time of the implementation, “We were in the process of changing our business model at Family Christian Stores from a predominantly vendor direct model to a centralized distribution model. We needed help to create the “right plan”, along with the necessary hardware/software to make it happen. We were starting at “ground zero” and needed a transition plan to take us from virtually no centralized distribution to a state today, which represents greater than 60% of the goods movement through the Grand Rapids facility.”

ISG utilizes a proprietary step-by-step process that starts with a complete analysis of current warehouse and distribution center operations and end objectives. Time is spent to determine what operational enhancements and technologies are needed to frame the system configuration for present and future distribution requirements. This unique and thorough analysis guards against false starts and the ill-timed development of budget-wasting, non-functional system concepts.

“ISG is not in it to just sell handling systems & “things”. They are genuinely interested in their clients’ vision and set a short, mid and long term strategy. Despite FCS working with other consultants before and after, the original plan we made is still alive today. It was modular in concept and design, allowing for flexible and cost effective implementation,” concluded Pryor.

The results from the ISG GAP Analysis are system designs, implementations, technology and project management strategies specifically based on short and long term objectives.

Selecting the right technology to ensure the best fit, best results and least amount of investment without pre-conceived ideas, ISG chooses from an almost endless list of applications.

Some of the solutions may include Conveyor and Sortation, Voice, RF and Pick-To-Light, Batch and Cluster Picking Methodologies, Warehouse Control Software, Barcode and RFID Scanning, Carousels, Cubing Software, Weight Technologies, Automatic Labeling applications and many more.

ISG has a wide range of industry leading clients including Hal Leonard Corporation, Hy-Vee, Inc., Family Christian Stores, Fender Musical Instruments, Inc, and Husqvarna. From musical instruments to bookstores to food warehouses, ISG is the leading consultancy for achieving effective distribution center and warehouse planning, design, and cost-effective material handling systems.
