Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/18/2010 -- This month people in customer service jobs in California saw both job loss and new openings. Hilton is planning shift its call center and McDonalds is planning to hire a few hundred people for its fast food outlets.
Hilton has announced that it is shutting down its reservation call center based in Hemet, California and is offering the around 350 affected employees a chance to work in the company’s call centers in Carrollton, Texas, and Tampa, Florida. But the positions pay $8.25 an hour in Texas and $9 an hour in Florida. Employees refusing relocation will get a severance package. Indications are that not many affected employees are going to uproot and move across the country.
On Tuesday, McDonalds had a one-day hiring event in northern California to hire up to 1,000 employees for its fast food outlets. Even part-time workers working only 20 hours a week will be eligible for free meals and health insurance plans. There are other customer service jobs in California.
