Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/03/2010 -- The Labor Department is going to release the employment report for August today, with experts saying it is going to show that only around 41,000 nonfarm private jobs were created.

Initial unemployment claims for the week ending August 28 fell to 472,000. The number of Americans getting unemployment checks also fell to 4.46 million on the week ending August 21, which was the latest data available. But hiring in the private sector remains weak. The nonfarm private payrolls are expected to increase by only 41,000. The economy needs to create on average around 150,000 jobs just to cope with the increase in the labor force.

Even the jobs that are being added include a substantial use of the temp sector, which now employs 2.1 million Americans. And while temp jobs are often seen as a precursor to a recovery of the jobs market, the paychecks are smaller and the jobs are without any benefits. These jobs are now employing an increasing number of people with professional qualifications.

A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of GovernmentCrossing, says that government jobs are a good choice in these times. “Most government jobs today pay more than their equivalents in the private sector. Plus they are relatively stable, which is a big point for a lot of people.” GovernmentCrossing is a niche job aggregator site, targeting only jobs available in the government.
