Washington, DC -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/02/2014 -- Gary Jenkins has been playing music for 64 years, and during that time he has accomplished many noteworthy goals: receiving scholarships to prestigious schools, studying under famous musicians, touring the world and becoming the first African-American musician to work on the staff of Walt Disney World. Now, Mr. Jenkins, along with his long-time band partners Ernie Krivda and Eddie Baccus, are taking the original Gary Jenkins Trio Jazz Band to a new level with the addition of a fourth member whose name will be announced soon to form the Gary Jenkins Quartet.
Born in 1946 in Ohio, Gary comes from a musical family with a father and uncles who were professional musicians. He started his own career on drums at the age of four, sitting in with his father and uncles as they practiced. His whole life has been given over to the study of music, with offers of scholarships to Florida A&M and the prestigious Julliard Music Conservatory. After service in Vietnam, Gary studied at the Cleveland Settlement House of Music with Bob Matson, principle percussionist for the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. He soon became one of the most sought-after musicians in the country. Due to his work with the East Coast Jazz Festival, Carnival Cruise Lines and Walt Disney World, Gary's talents have become known to a much wider audience, making him particularly sought-after as a teacher and mentor. However, his successful partnership with Ernie Krivda and Eddie Baccus has inspired him to re-establish his band with these talented musicians and add a new member to form a quartet.
Gary Jenkins says, "I've known both Ernie Krivda and Eddie Baccus for over 30 years, they are both gifted musicians and I am so excited to be working amongst the best in the industry! I am looking forward to making a whole lot more music with them in the very near future."
