Fort Worth, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/17/2014 -- Christmas came early this year for some fortunate Fort Worth residents. Local dentist, H. Peter Ku, D.D.S. hosted a free dental day on Dec. 12, where he and his staff set aside a full day to perform needed dental work on the uninsured.

Dr. Ku has had a dental practice on the west side of Fort Worth for more than 24 years. For him, it's more than just a job. It's his community. And he feels a responsibility to give back to the community in any way he can. Though he has hosted free dental days in the past, there's something special about having one during the holiday season. One of Dr. Ku's staff members said , "We all tend to get complacent and take for granted what we have – but being able to give back in this way helped to remind us how blessed we really are."

Michelle Hines, one of the patients that Dr. Ku had the chance to treat, had two fillings and a cracked molar repaired. When asked about her experience, she said "That dentist appointment has changed my day-to-day life. I never realized how much that little pain really bothers you...my gums are sore but I'm much better off & extremely thankful."

Both adults and children were present on the latest free dental day - by the end, Dr. Ku, assisted by Dr. Laura Jo Klein and Dr. Darrell Pruitt, plus a full staff of dental hygienists and assistants, had performed over $10,000 worth of essential dental procedures and had logged well over 80 man-hours.

Dr. Ku's office lead the charge, but he wasn't working alone. Ora-Pharma donated lunches, and Benco Dental Supplies provided free dental supplies, helping to ensure that everyone could receive treatment. And, because it's the holidays, participants left with more than just healthy teeth. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses Dealer Alternative and One Stop Printing, each patient left with a bag full of fun goodies.

Laurie Ferlazzo, the office manager for H. Peter Ku, D.D.S. explained: "Our partners in this event understand, just as we do, that people who cannot afford dental insurance will almost certainly be facing difficulties beyond just dental care. Everyone who supported us in this cause, whether they are volunteers lending support on the day or local businesses making donations that brightened the lives of our patients, have all demonstrated extraordinary community spirit, not to mention – the Christmas spirit - and we are so thankful to them all for making the day a huge success."
