Sexton Development Nears Completion of Lake Bluff's First LEED-Certified Home

Rigorous, demanding energy-efficiency and environmental standards have rarely been met in residential construction thus far, leaving company proudly breaking new ground, Sexton Development reports

Lake Bluff, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/12/2015 -- Sexton Development, a leading Custom Home Builder, announced that the company was nearing the completion of the first LEED-certified home in the area. The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED certification system lays down comprehensive standards for the building of energy-efficient structures of all kinds and has become a common target for commercial and institutional projects. Comparatively few residential building projects, on the other hand, have so far qualified for certification under the rigorous program, making Sexton Development's latest effort especially noteworthy.

"Home buyers in general, but especially those who are in the market for Custom Homes, are increasingly conscious about energy efficiency and other environmental issues," Director of Development Drew Daniels said, "As the widely lauded LEED program has become such an important feature of the commercial building industry, we feel that it is time that it achieved similar prominence among residential projects. So the challenge we set out to prove was to build a classic French style home that blends with the surrounding architecture, but met the rigorous design guidelines of the LEED program. I think it will be a real eye-opener when home buyers see this home and realize how much money they can really save by implementing these types of design guidelines into their new or existing homes. We are certainly pleased that this project will be the first LEED-certified home in Lake Bluff, and we're proud to be leaders in this way."

The twenty-year-old, non-profit U.S. Green Building Council coordinates with similar organizations around the world to establish certification systems and best practice guidelines aimed at improving the energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of buildings of all kinds. The organization's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification is today frequently sought by commercial builders of office buildings, institutional structures, and similarly large-scale projects.

Pursuance of the certification for projects of smaller scales, however, has been less common. Custom home builder and general contractor Sexton Development is one of relatively few in the state of Illinois to so far undertake the completion of a LEED-certified home, and company representatives feel that this effort will help pave the way for many more to follow.

A family-owned and -operated business since the company was established in 1932, Sexton Development is one of the area's top residential builders and contractors. A consistent emphasis on quality and reliability has made the company an enduring favorite of those in Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, and the greater North Shore area who seek to have their own custom homes built or other work done without compromises of any sort.

In addition to always delivering the best available construction quality and reliability and timeliness of service, Sexton Development has also forged a strong reputation for producing some of the most beautiful homes in the region. The company's timeless architectural designs and high-end custom home and remodeling projects regularly attract attention from a variety of media outlets, as with a recent profile in Forest & Bluff Magazine that covered the imminent completion of Sexton Development's area-first LEED-certified home.
