Barlow is the group's main songwriter. Take That perform primarily on vocals though each have some instrumental talent/song-writing capability. Take That band achieved major success in the early to mid 1990s as a five person boyband act, with Robbie Williams. A reformed four man version of the band have achieved new success without Williams since 2005. Formed in Manchester in 1990, Take That sold more than 25 million records between 1991–96.

Take That band split up in 1996, but after a 2005 documentary and the release of a new greatest hits album, they officially announced a 2006 reunion tour around the United Kingdom, entitled The Ultimate Tour.
