How to Get More Instagram Likes and Comments: New Study

A recent research conducted on Instagram reveals various factors like tags, caption, filters, face-detection and many others involved in the rise and fall of likes and comments.

Berkeley, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/30/2015 -- In today's vast world of social networking, the status of user's fame lives and dies with likes and comments. This same scenario applies to the popular photo-sharing application, Instagram. For all those not really acquainted with this app, it's a fundamental concept of uploading a photo to the account and incorporating a filter to help make the photos, sometimes look more appealing. Although it might seem easy and self-serving, Instagram has taken the whole social networking world by surprise and it is particularly popular among young generations.

The application was created in the sense that it enables users to link with the more "high-profile"; i.e. Musicians, Actors, Athletes etc. A recent study tracked over millions of photos to understand about the rise and fall of Instagram likes & comments.

The research has unearthed that if a person write the words "comment" or "like" inside his/her caption, there is more possibility to get a like or comment. Whether it's clearly mentioned ("Comment on this picture and that I may follow you back") or is mentioned ultimately ("I truly like this time of the year), users are likely to be willing to comment or like the photo since their minds have now been subjected to the Instagram lingo. The study disclosed that using these phrases led to an 89% escalation in so on like-like group, along with a 2,194% escalation in the comment-comment group.

The photo quality is also something which plays an important role in getting more comments and likes. The research unearthed that de-saturated photos often grab more attention than photos which are saturated. There clearly was a 598% variation in likes in de-saturated versus saturated.

It is also found that photos with no filter applied (the "Normal" Filter settings) had the highest likes-per-followers, followed by only 3 other filters that out-performed the average. Using a face detection algorithm, researchers found that there is a 35% increase in likes and comments on photos with faces as compared to photos without faces.
