East Granby, CT -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/04/2015 -- Next week's Picking Perfection newsletter will discuss the case for augmented reality for improved operational picking control. Last year, DC Velocity published a feature article titled, "Thoughts on Augmented Reality in the Warehouse," by Kevin Gue. He shared his reaction to a video of how glasses are being used in an order fulfillment center. The prospect of using these in warehousing was mentioned by a participant at one of the Material Handling & Logistics Roadmap workshops.
The newsletter will also explore Put-to-light. According to MHI, Put to-light systems are an effective automated sortation method to break larger quantities of product into individual customer orders, using light devices to direct operators to 'put' items. Sometimes the Put-to-light approach is referred to as 'scan and sort.' Merchandise that is typically batch picked beforehand is brought to a put station.
Picking Perfection newsletter will profile eliminating mis-picks. There are some interesting case studies that demonstrate how mis-picks can be eliminated by the numbers. ici Paris, for example, automated their warehouse which included 25,000 SKUs. There were 2600 bulk locations and 2200 "fast movers" which were the focus on the Pick-to-light (PTL) warehouse automation.
Picking Perfection newsletter, shares methods, modes, and tools used in a variety of industries. The weekly newsletter examines best picking practices. Leaders are looking for a competitive advantage, have dynamic and experienced sales forces, and have a corporate culture which is customer-focused and intent on building long-term relationships with satisfied customers. This is spoiled when a single product is not correctly picked.
