MXI Maumee Express, Inc. Opens HHW Season at Bergen County NJ Event

Abingdon, VA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/09/2015 -- As one of the leading hazardous waste disposal companies in the nation, MXI Maumee Express, Inc. routinely holds one-day household hazardous waste collection events for communities, counties, and municipalities around the country. On March 7th 2015, the company had its first event at the Bergen County Utility Authority in Moonachie, New Jersey.

Despite the brutally cold weather, the company collected 33,000 pounds of materials from over 300 cars. The event was busier than expected considering the cold weather and the significant snowstorm just two days prior to the collection.

"The job went great," said Rich Baroch, the Household Hazardous Waste Events Coordinator for the Bergen County Utilities Authority. "We were worried the weather might keep everyone away but I'm very happy with the turnout. The job went smooth and the MXI crew was great as always."

House Hazardous Waste Collection events are organized in a way for residents of the community or county to pull up in their vehicle and drop off materials in a drive-thru fashion without a surcharge in order to provide residents with a proper way to dispose of hazardous materials. At the Bergen County authority, 35 employees of MXI were present to gather, properly package, and ship the waste materials.

"This was a great way to start the year," said Marc Kodrowski, the Project Manager and Director of Household Hazardous Waste Collections for MXI. "Even though it was freezing out our crew was in great spirits and we got a good turnout. That means we go a lot of hazardous waste out of the homes of the citizens. I'm looking forward to a great HHW season in 2015."

Residents dropped off gasoline, cleaners, herbicides, pesticides, solvents, oils, batteries, pool chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, and much more. The latex paint collected at the job will be the first load packaged and directed to MXI's new Latex Paint Recycling operation. The amount of materials collected were enough to fill two truckloads, which were immediately transported to MXI's Materials Recovery Facility in Virginia. At the facility, the company recycles the latex paint for reuse, bulks flammable wastes for fuels blending, and safely repackages toxic and reactive wastes to be sent to a specialized facilities for handling various hazardous wastes.
