Johnny Denenea of Shearman-Denenea Launches Legionnaires' Disease Awareness Campaign

New initiative will help public better understand the risks and means of preventing this deadly form of pneumonia, Denenea reports

New Orleans, LA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/13/2015 -- Johnny Denenea, a founding partner of law firm Shearman-Denenea, LLC, announced the commencement of a new public awareness campaign focusing on Legionnaires' disease. Through a series of public appearances, press availability opportunities, and the release of online informational resources, Denenea will work to spread knowledge about this often-deadly form of pneumonia. Through his work as a trial lawyer, Denenea has successfully represented many victims of the disease and their families, and the new public awareness campaign will help to ensure that proper precautions against it will be taken.

"Although it is entirely preventable, Legionnaires' disease continues to claim too many victims in the United States and around the world," Denenea stated, "One of the best ways of combating this dangerous form of pneumonia is to teach people about how it is spread. We think our new public awareness initiative is going to be a helpful and effective way of doing so."

First recognized as a distinct cause of pneumonia in 1976 after a deadly outbreak at an American Legion convention that gave the disease its name, Legionnaires' disease is caused by an infection by bacteria that thrive in warm water. The bacteria responsible for the disease grow in a symbiotic relationship with amoeba that can be found in humidifiers, hot tubs, water heaters, evaporative coolers, ice-making machines, and other equipment containing water.

Good sanitation and maintenance practices can deprive the Legionnaires' disease bacteria of the conditions they need to grow, virtually erasing the risk of the disease being contracted. Nonetheless, the decades since the discovery of the disease's source have seen a steady stream of altogether preventable cases, with many of these resulting in death, owing to mortality rates associated with the disease being as high as 30%.

Even in cases where an apparently clear link to a source of the bacteria can be found, actually proving responsibility and negligence in court can be difficult. By successfully representing a number of victims of Legionnaires' disease, Denenea has become one of the legal world's recognized experts on the illness, frequently serving as a consultant for other legal teams in such cases.

Denenea's new awareness campaign will help to spread to the public at large the benefit of his experience investigating and representing Legionnaires' disease claims. The centerpiece of the campaign is a series of informational resources at the Shearman-Denenea website, like the one at http://www.thelegionnaireslawyer.com/building-case-legionnaires-disease/ that describes the work that goes into building a case for a legal claim relating to the disease. Other resources, like that at http://www.thelegionnaireslawyer.com/legionnaires-disease-claims-compensation/ detail the kinds of compensation that have been secured for recent victims of Legionnaires' disease, as well as other related issues.

As the new campaign goes forward, Denenea will be available to answer questions from members of the press. Visitors to the Legionnaires' Lawyer website can also arrange for free consultations regarding their options.
