In the UK, Retail New Car Registrations Were Up During February Compared to Last Year

Stevenage, Hertfordshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/31/2015 -- February is normally a slow month for car retailers. This is because many people, especially private buyers, wait for the plate switch over. Consumers know that if they buy in March they will get the new registration.

The registration of new cars for private individuals was up by 3.4% month on month. However, the biggest growth was for fleet sales.

Fleet car sales increased by close on 20% meaning that car dealers were extremely busy when compared to a normal February. Sales figures for the used car industry during January and February are yet to be released, but the trend during the latter part of 2014 was up, and all indications are that used car forecourts have stayed busy during the first part of 2015.

Used car dealers in Hertfordshire and the rest of the UK are set to benefit greatly from the fact that more new cars are being registered. Many of the new cars that are being registered are replacements. That means that there are plenty of units entering the used car market.

This translates into used car dealers being able to offer their customers a good choice of cars and gives them the chance to keep prices stable. During the latter part of 2014, much of the demand in the used car market came from consumers looking for vehicles or four years or less. Again, the fact that many of the new sales are being sold to fleet owners is good news because the majority, of fleet owners replace their vehicles on a three-year cycle. This means that there will be plenty of three-year-old vehicles for used car dealers to offer to their customers. In other words, exactly the vehicles their customers are looking for.

In addition, there are new PCP deals being made available. This means that people looking for a used car can easily find low cost finance something that has not been possible in the past. Most in the industry expect 2015 to be a busy year for the entire car industry.
