Dominica Prime Minister Promotes Citizenship by Investment Program in China

The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosvelt Skerrit, was in China recently trying to attract high net worth Chinese investors to apply for the country’s citizenship by investment program that is long established and has been running since 1993.

Saint Kitts and Nevis, Leeward Islands -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/08/2015 -- It was reported by China Business news that the Commonwealth of Dominica Prime Minister had visited China recently to promote his country's citizenship by investment program to suitable applicants there.

Roosvelt Skerrit, who has been the Prime Minister of Dominica since 2004, was hopeful that the Citizenship by Investment program offered by Dominica would attract Chinese investors. The program has been running in Dominica since 1993 and is well established.

The economy of Dominica has suffered recently as the predicted tourism numbers did not materialize, banana plantations in the country have suffered from pest encroachment and the country is generally still feeling the after effects of the financial crisis of 2008. The Prime Minister is confident that the citizenship by investment program will provide much needed additional revenue which can be used to reduce debts and boost the economy of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Investors who are interested in the Dominica citizenship by investment program can make an investment in real estate starting at a minimum of $200,000 the Prime Minister stated. Applications are only permitted through licensed agents. "The country of Dominica is now working with an immigration consultancy to better promote our citizenship by investment program" said Skerrit.

Skerrit also said "applicants would not be taxed on their property, and that there were no regulations on capital gains and no language requirements".

The question of corrupt Chinese officials or other business people illegally transferring their property to the Commonwealth of Dominica was raised on his visit and Skerrit responded by stating "applications for citizenship will be approved only after comprehensive investigation and that the program was not established for criminals from China or the United States".

Skerrit expects that the revenues derived from the investments made by the CBI program will provide more job opportunities for the population of the country, provide revenues for the energy projects and infrastructure construction projects and provide a boost to the tourism numbers in the future.
