The Best of Morocco offers two basic desert tour itineraries. The first is a four-day Sahara excursion that begins and ends in Marrakesh. On the first day, travelers drive from Marrakesh to the city of Ouarzazat through the winding Tizi n'Tichka pass with its dramatic view of the Atlas Mountains. They arrive at the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a majestic fortress, then continue to the Dades Gorge for a restful night in their hotel. On day two, a guide drives travelers through the valley to see the unusual "monkey toes" rock formation. Then travelers continue to the towns of Erfoud, Rissani and Merzouga, where a camel guide awaits. Travelers mount their camels and cross the windswept, alien landscape of the Erg Chebbi. In the desert, travelers can sleep under the night sky or in a traditional Berber tent. On day three, it's back to Merzouga and Erg Chebbi, then on to the tradition-steeped Moroccan town of Rissani. After leaving Rissani, travelers reach their hotel in the peaceful Draa Valley. The final day of the trip takes travelers back to Marrakesh.
The second itinerary also lasts four days, and the first three days include the sights and splendors of the round-trip to Marrakesh. On the fourth day, instead of heading back to Marrakesh, travelers awaken to a brilliant sunrise and ride by camel back to their riad. After breakfast, guests will see the volcanic Ziz Gorges and the Cedar Forest. After stopping in Ifran for a rest, travelers are safely seen to the city of Fes.
