DVLA Changes: Fair Rent Reflects

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/15/2015 -- There has been much discussion across the media regarding the recently announced DVLA changes to the driving license system. The change involves still issuing the credit-card style plastic license complete with the individuals picture, but removing the paper counterpart. Instead, the paper will be replaced with an online system when it comes to car hire. Why does this matter? Ultimately, car hire companies have typically used the paper counterpart and find it useful for their policies of hire as it lists the endorsements and/or actions of the individual in regards to driving. Previously, if a person had too many endorsements on their paper slip they would not be allowed to hire a car.

In turn, after the 8th June, those wanting to rent a car will have to opt for the online system. This involves going to the DVLA website and after logging in, inputting their national insurance number and license. The system will then generate a one-time pass code which gives car hire companies the potential to then access the persons speeding offenses and any other auto-related incident. The pass code is valid for 72 hours however, and has caused much controversy amongst car users concerned that the system will be complicated, inaccessible and prone to error.

Fair rent are key providers of vehicle hire based in the South of England, as well as frequent commentators on issues in the auto industry. They were quick to reflect on the DVLA news.

"It is understandable that people may be concerned regarding the recent DVLA announcement," A spokesperson told us "however, as a car hire firm we want to urge all those thinking about hiring a vehicle to still go ahead with the process. If you are considering vehicle hire for the summer period especially, such as in relation to a holiday, this can be a potentially ease-bringing option whilst still giving you autonomy. Although the new changes may sound complicated, the best car hire firms will strive to give you all the information you may need and will work with you to make car hire an accessible and easy option. We aim to work with and support our customers with the DVLA changes, making their hire options as stress-free and smooth as possible."
