Trawden, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/19/2015 -- Leading UK women's lingerie supplier, My Knickers, has recently commented on the #DropThePlus campaign which has been started in hopes to make the lingerie industry drop the 'plus size' term for women's underwear over size 10.
The campaign originated in Australia, set up by StefaniaFerrario, an Australian lingerie model, along with Ajay Rochester, an actress and author. The aim of the campaign is to increase body confidence from other women and prevent size segregation from being a thing, with the focus largely on the term 'plus size'.
While the campaign started with just the two of them, Stefania posing in a black bikini, and Ajay posing topless, the campaign has quickly spread across the world, with support from a large group of women of all sizes.
Ajay said, 'We are all women. Many shapes and sizes. Drop the plus.'
Stefania, a size 12 said, 'I am a model full stop. Unfortunately in the modelling industry, if you're above a US size 4 you are considered plus size, and so I'm often labelled as a 'plus size' model. I do not find this empowering. I am not proud to be called 'plus', but I am proud to be called a 'model', that is my profession!'
Since the campaign begun, photo shoots with 'plus sized' women have been taking place across the world, with a recent shoot involved Ajay and a group of women taking place in Los Angeles.
Often commenting on industry news, a spokesperson for My Knickers said, 'We are fully in support of the #DropThePlus campaign, as it unrealistically determines who is considered 'normal' and who is considered a 'plus size'.
