Pasadena, California -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/11/2010 -- The latest jobs report from the Labor Department has revealed that the country lost 95,000 jobs in September.

America’s unemployment rate stayed at 9.6 percent, but the broader unemployment rate, called the U6 rate, was 17.1 percent. Although, the economy lost jobs overall, the private sector was able to add 64,000 jobs. The negative job rate was mainly because of layoffs in the state and local government organizations, where 159,000 workers were let go. Another major factor was the continued job losses in the construction and manufacturing sectors.

In the private sector, the main job creation engines were the leisure and hospitality industry (38,000 jobs) and healthcare (32,000 jobs). But in the leisure and hospitality sector, most of the jobs were created in bars and restaurants, most of which do not pay well and have few benefits.

CEO A. Harrison Barnes of Hound believes that although that the Labor Report is right on the number of job losses there are still jobs being created. “It’s not just that only bars and restaurants are taking on workers. Our site has been able to find jobs in the high-tech sector too.”

Hound is a job search engine that has been able to find a total of over 84,000 jobs posted on employer websites so far. The company expects more job postings in the next few days as the retail chains announce their plans for this holiday season.
