Pompano Beach, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/04/2015 -- Engineer and inventor Victor Morales is the brains behind a new crowdfunded campaign, raising money to build affordable exoskeleton robots so that people who are paralyzed can walk, pick up objects and live a better life. The exoskeletons can also be used by anyone who needs extra strength and mobility. And, in the future, Morales plans to develop exoskeletons that will revolutionize the construction and transport industries and search and rescue operations.
Morales and his team have invented two types of exoskeleton:
- The Scout Exoskeleton Robot consists of an exoskeleton for the chest and legs and is aimed at people with walking problems or paraplegia of the lower limbs.
- The Independence Exoskeleton Robot is like the Scout Exoskeleton robot but also includes arms and robotic hands. It is primarily intended for people with quadriplegia.
The exoskeletons are backed up by full user training and physical, psychological and technical support.
Users can control their exoskeletons via an iPhone or an Android or Google Glass device. The exoskeletons can also be controlled via voice or an eye control system.
"Robotic exoskeletons have the power to allow people to do amazing things," explains Morales, "and I want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to be part of the movement," he adds.
As well as contributing generally to the program, people can buy a 'Piggy Bank' to start their own campaign to raise funds for an exoskeleton for a named individual. In this case, once 90 percent of the costs have been raised, Morales and his team will contribute the final 10 percent.
Morales' team is also offering business opportunities to individuals and companies wanting to get in on the ground floor of a new niche market, selling robotic exoskeletons and related services.
