Cherry Creek, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/08/2015 -- Joseph Kolinsky, a Board Member of Do Away With SMA (a 501©3 non-profit charity), is going to attempt to run a multi-day solo endurance event. He will start his run on August 18th 2015 near the front steps of the Walt Disney Family Museum in San Francisco. He will run approximately 28 miles a day, and is scheduled to finish this run on September 3rd 2105 at the front gate of Disneyland in Anaheim. Joe is running this multi-day event in order to raise awareness and donations for Do Away with SMA.
Do Away with SMA (or "DAWS"), has been working as a team to raise awareness about SMA. Joe Kolinsky, the President and one of the board members, has already run over 30 marathons, and he plans to embark many more endurance events. Other members are also very active when it comes to taking initiatives. Amy Pease, Brian Johnson, Mitch Brannen, Robyn Engel are some of the board members who have had similar running experiences as Joe.
Joe Kolinsky was recently quoted as saying that he lost his two brothers at a very early age as SMA Type 1 claimed both of their lives. He said, "Running and touching people's lives means a lot to me. I want to reach out each and every person along the course so they know what kind of disease it is and how it can become terminal in due course. My primary aim is to raise awareness, though I also plan to give them the contacts of local specialists and health care centres. We simply want to help as many people as we can, and play a part in defeating this disease. When I run, I always remember the faces of my younger brothers."
