New Survey Shows That Few People Know What Credit Monitoring Companies Do

TheBestCompanys.com review team completed recent survey indicating that most consumers don’t know what credit monitoring companies actually do.

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/10/2015 -- TheBestCompanys.com (TBC) newest survey was looking to discover people's understanding of the purpose of credit monitoring. Our experts believe results will help TBC understand how well the industry is known and understood.

Credit monitoring is a recently relaunched vertical. TheBestCompanys.com experts believe consumers need to know what credit monitoring is. A credit monitoring company tracks a person's credit history and sends credit scores and reports monthly to detect any suspicious activity.

The survey question asked: What do you think credit monitoring service does?

Here are the results from at least 1,000 random respondents who answered from the following choices:

10.5% - Scans the internet monthly
9.5% - Disputes your credit report errors
35.2% - Protects you from identity theft
39.5% - Sends credit scores & reports monthly
5.4% - Boosts your credit score

The survey had included only one correct answer, answer d, with a result of 39.5 percent. Those that answered, it protects you from identity theft were 35.2 percent with 10.5 percent answering that it scans the internet monthly. About 9.5 percent put disputes your credit score errors. And 5.4 percent selected that it boosts your credit score.

"The results were surprising," Content Management Specialist Isaac Ericksen said. "We did not have any expectations in the survey statistics. We just wanted to gain a perspective from the people to help better the TBC reviews on credit monitoring companies."

With 35.2 percent of respondents believing that credit monitoring services provide identity theft protection. TBC has already included if a company offers identity protection and has added a portion of the score for a company providing that additional service. However, TBC is specifically reviewing the credit monitoring service of a company.

Over 60 percent do not actually know what a credit monitoring service does as shown by the survey.

"This percentage has definitely helped us to better solve an issue that we need to address and help our visitors understand what credit monitoring actually does." said Ericksen.
