Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/20/2010 -- The automobile industry in Indiana is now employing over 100,000 workers since its low point last year. This makes the state’s auto sector one of the few industries to create a high number of private sector jobs in this recession.
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show that Indiana’s auto industry added around 22,000 jobs, bringing the total number to 100,400. The industry’s lowest point came in June 2009 when there were only 78,700 workers in the state’s auto industry.
Most of the jobs have been created by small suppliers who work with the factories of General Motors, Toyota, Honda, and Subaru. German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp has also announced plans to expand its presence in the state and add 160 jobs in a plant 130 miles from Indianapolis.
Indianapolis has also several jobs in the healthcare sector and thousands of opportunities in blue-collar work. Job aggregator website IndianapolisCrossing, which tracks jobs in the Indianapolis metro area, has also been able to compile a list of almost 8,000 jobs in the area.
