Environmental Health Trust Announces Winner and Honorable Mentions in Its Fifth Annual Practice Safe Tech Art Contest

Schools around the nation are encouraged to participate for the 2015-2016 season

Teton Village, WY -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/29/2015 -- The Environmental Health Trust has honored three local students who have been recognized as winners in this year's Practice Safe Tech Art Contest. The contest is held annually by Environmental Health Trust's Jackson Action team to encourage students to look more closely at the facts about wireless technology that is so prevalent in their daily lives and learn how to protect themselves from wireless exposure. The event took place Thursday, June 25th from 5 to 6 PM at the Teton County Library Auditorium.

"This event is about community coming together to honor one another, as well as a safer community; it's also about spreading EHT's message of how to be safer in our wireless world," Jackson Program Leader, Erin Wickiewicz said, " It's remarkable to see students throughout the valley put so much dedication and creative thought into make this community a safer place. Their entries embodied strong messages through strong voices," said the former elementary teacher in the Valley.

Coming in first place is Aspen Jacquet, a junior from Jackson Hole High School. She sang her winning entry, a song about practicing safe technology. She sings about how she values technology but wants to remain safe; she accomplishes this by not wearing her phone close to her body and uses her headset when using cell phones. She also sings about the joys of practicing safe technology. EHT will present Aspen with a $500 winner's check with another $500 awarded to Aspen's school. Her entry can be heard on the EHT website: http://ehtrust.org/grand-prize-winner-of-the-5th-annual-safe-technology-contest/

The honorable mention awards included: Peter Prestrud, a junior at Jackson Hole High School with a short film created by Alarm Clock Films Production Company and Sloane Gordon, also a junior at Jackson Hole Community School, for her graphic design entry. The Youngest Safe Tech Superstar Award will be awarded to Aidan Kim-Miller, a second grader at Jackson Elementary School for his award winning drawing.

Schools around the nation are encouraged to participate for the 2015-2016 season. More information can be found on EHT's Schools take Action page by following this link: http://ehtrust.org/take-action/schools-take-action/
