New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/01/2015 -- It has been an exciting and historic week leading into the 6th Annual Harlem Pride Celebrations themed "Justice for All, The Movement Continues." Thousands of Same Gender Loving / Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual, and Transgender (SGL/LGBT) revelers, family and friends visited uptown Manhattan for a week of festivities heralding the marriage equality win and the great strides gained by the SGL/LGBT community within the United States.
The week opened on Sunday, June 21st, Harlem Pride 2015 Sunday Service at St. Philip's Episcopal Church at 11:15am with award winning recording artist Nhojj.
Harlem Pride 2015 has capped an exciting year for Harlem's SGL/LGBT community, highlighted by the US Supreme Court recognizing gay marriage and Governor Cuomo targeting the eradication of new HIV infections in New York, with a renewed and focused outreach to Black, Hispanic and transgender communities. Tuesday, June 23rd, Circle of Life Celebration: A Memorial Service in conjunction with SAGE Harlem at Union Theological Seminary. Wednesday, June 24th, Dominican Film Festival LGBT Presentation of "Dolares de arena" co-sponsored by Harlem Pride at Columbia University's Alumni Auditorium. Thursday, June 25th, Harlem Pride Night for "Invisible Life The Musical" at The Apollo Theater. Friday, June 26th 2015, Pride Ride: Rockin' The Rivers! Circle Line Cruises Pier 83.
On Saturday, June 27th, rain or shine the 6th Annual Harlem Pride Day Celebration, Harlem Pride's signature event kicked off the weekend at Jackie Robinson Park. With more than 100 vendors and 5,000 participants the Village of Harlem shared #LOVEALWAYSWINS. Special Guest Frenchie Davis opened the fiesta with the song, "Home" from the Broadway musical The Wiz. Speaker of the New York City Council, Melissa Mark-Viverito, New York City Comptroller, Scott M. Stringer, New York State Assembly Member from the 70th district, Keith L. T. Wright and Musical Guest Divinity Roxx.
Sunday, June 28th, Harlem Pride represented the Village of Harlem at NYC Heritage of Pride Parade March down 5th Avenue into the Greenwich Village.
