Hilltop Moringa Farms Launches IndieGoGo Campaign to Raise Funds

Calintaan, Philippines -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/08/2015 -- Hilltop Moringa Farms is a demonstration farm that is building a collection of farms located in the Philippines whose objective is to mitigate climate change by encouraging reforestation.  The idea was first promoted by Joseph Reynolds, who spent some of his childhood in the rainforests of the Panama Canal Zone.  This inspired him with a love of forests and a horror of the deforestation taking place in the Philippines.  "Reforestation is a social question," Reynolds notes, "and by shifting the paradigm for Philippines farmers to place a money-making methodology in front of them, they can be encouraged to achieve beneficial biological and ecological effects and to mitigate climate change."

Reynolds conducted experimental growth of trees from 2000 to 2008, eventually incorporating Moringa oleifera, a highly productive food-producing tree, into his plan. Today, Hilltop Moringa Farms sits on eight hectares of forested land nestled on a hilltop.  The profitability for the farmer of growing Moringa is more than ten times what his net earnings are from growing rice when computed on a per square meter basis.

In order to expand this idea, Reynolds and his team require funding to meet FDA licensing and health requirements, including the labeling and packaging.  According to Reynolds, "We need to deal directly with the consumer who needs to be our customer and partner.  Our product is a food with tremendous nutrients so we need government certified/approved testing to enable us to make such claims on our labeling."

The IndieGoGo campaign, located at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hilltop-moringa-farms-product-launch#/story, offers pledge levels from $1 to $10,000 and perks from recognition to quantities of Moringa capsules.  For more information on each of the pledge levels and associated prizes, visit the IndieGoGo page.
