Government Plastic Recycling Targets Announced: Kempner Comments

Middlesex, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/20/2015 -- Recent news has highlighted the significance of the government's proposed target of plastic packaging recycling – at 57% by 2017. This could appear ambitious and has been supported by the Plastics Industry Recycling Action Plan (PIRAP) which sees recycling as a way to optimise infrastructure and fuel other markets. The recycling aim is also supported by the British Plastics Federation (BPF) and the Packaging and Films Association (PAFA).

A packaging form of significant use is plastic shrink wrap. It has also been involved in a number of recycling initiatives, both in the US and the UK. In the US, innovative forms include recycling the plastic film often used to protect boats when they are stored in marinas in the winter months. Furthermore, plastic film could be seen as having potential for sustainability – as it can allow for a tight, efficient covering which is not bulky and reduces the mass of waste. Shrink wrap is also popular in regards to food sustainability, as can offer a potentially air tight seal for food products, such as salad items and fruits – in turn extending their shelf-life.

About Kempner
Kempner are a prime example of experts in regards to shrink wrap. They are key providers of a range of shrink wrap machinery, thus enabling industries to efficiently package their own products. They are also frequent commentators on industry news and were quick to reflect on the governments aims of 57% plastic packaging recycling.

"We think that it is a positive thing – that the government have aims for working with a plastic in a sustainable way," A spokesperson said "That is why we encourage the sensible use of shrink wrap, as it is a time-and-cost efficient method of sealing products which can be sustainable. Not only is it a high quality method, but can be recycled too. We celebrate that businesses are making sensible and effective choices with their packaging. After all, having your own machine reduces the need to transport products to separate packaging facilities and this is a significant sustainable choice in itself."
