Doncaster, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/20/2015 -- Figures published by Think!, the government's road safety information body, reveal that accidents on country roads account for 60 per cent of all road fatalities, and claim the lives of three people each day.
Sharp bends and often inadequate lighting on many country roads makes them more dangerous to drive on than motorways; according to the report, 11 times more people are killed on country roads than on the motorways.
This news highlights the importance of driving with much more care and attention in the countryside, as dangers are likely to catch drivers off guard on the the quiet country lanes. These figures support an earlier survey carried out by road safety campaign group, Brake which found that one in four men and one in six women admitted to overtaking on rural roads when they could not be certain that it was safe to do so.
