The Marshall Plan Documentary Producer Launches IndieGoGo Campaign

Zurich, Switzerland -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/20/2015 -- When Texas Mayor Ed Smith III was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he elected to forego conventional treatment in favor of a plant-based, whole foods diet.  The results were nothing short of miraculous:  his cancer disappeared.  He and his wife embarked on a mission to help their town and community adopt a healthier lifestyle based on plant foods.  Their story is now being told in The Marshall Plan, a documentary that focuses on the transformation of one town into a healthier place when its residents adopted new eating strategies.

Featured in the film are Mayor Ed Smith III, who was able to battle his prostate cancer successfully by switching to a whole foods, plant-based diet; his wife, Amanda Smith, who is the director of the "Get Healthy Marshall" initiative and the yearly Marshall HealthFest; various citizens of the city who have gained back their health by switching to a whole-food, plant-based diet, including Marshall's fire chief, the county judge and a professional pilot; several experts in the field of medicine and nutrition science such as Professor T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Neal Barnard, Susan Levin, RD, Dr. Baxter Montgomery and Dr. Michael Klaper; Gene Baur, President and Co-Founder of Farm Sanctuary; professional athletes, including Rich Roll, an ultra-endurance athlete from California and Tim Shieff, a professional freerunner from London; and Dr. Albert Zink, the head of the Institute for Mummies and the Iceman in Bolzano, Italy.

The Marshall Plan is being produced by a Switzerland-based film team lead by Caroline Hofmann as producer, script writer and director.  She is a former PR advisor to several Fortune 500 companies and major national brands.  Her efforts are supported by Roland Boeni, a Zurich medical doctor, as executive producer.  The story came to their attention through an article published in the New York Times about the remarkable transformation taking place in Marshall.  After visiting, they determined to tell the story to the world.

"For the documentary, we followed formerly unwell, medically reliant citizens of Marshall who have completely transformed their health and quality of life by finally choosing foods that works for them, and not against them, and without using any drugs," says Hofmann.  "We have combined these accounts with interviews from expert doctors and researchers in the field of nutrition, and professional athletes, in the hopes of not only inspiring people to make a change for the better, but to also redefine what we've been conditioned to consider 'healthy'."

The IndieGoGo campaign, located at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/documentary-the-marshall-plan#/story, is designed to raise money to complete the production process.  The current rough cut is one hour and 19 minutes long; funds raised through the campaign will be used to finance the editing, music, sound effects, animation and graphics.  Additional funds will be used to launch a screening tour in the United States.  Pledge levels range from $30 to $4,000 and include prizes from a free copy of the DVD to a special dinner with the producer.  For more information, see the IndieGoGo page.
