6 out of 10 British Men Put off DIY Work

Nelson, Lancashire -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/21/2015 -- Researchers have found that the majority of men knowingly procrastinate on DIY jobs, admitting that they make excuses for doing so. The top excuses offered by participants in the study for this, included the feeling that they did not possess the practical skill, confidence or motivation to complete DIY tasks. With a proportion even admitted that they left tasks incomplete in the hopes that their partners would call in professional tradesmen. The survey of 1,000 men found a reluctance on their part to involve themselves in DIY work around the house, with many suggesting their fathers knew much more than they did.

With summer around the corner, the better weather usually means more odd jobs require completing, and more men (and women) venture out into the garden to work on DIY projects in the hopes of improving their outdoor space. A crucial factor in confidence in DIY projects is knowledge of the right utensils and equipment to use. With many participants in the study using Google to complete their projects, it is clear that there is an element of missing information that may be at play in the reluctance of some men to complete DIY projects.

About Hosemaster
The Hosemaster are leading suppliers for the DIY and professional trade. They specialise in the provision of hose and ducting, clamping and clips for both pneumatic and garden hoses. They are particularly familiar with the expertise that is required in many DIY projects. Being regular commentators on industry news, a spokesperson had this to say, 'We think that the numbers are quite high but not entirely surprising when you consider the fact that we tend to do very little ourselves these days, undermining the very idea of DIY! But having said that, we are seeing a general increase towards people wanting to carry out these projects by themselves. Many people come to us and share their concerns about not knowing what to look for and so on. The right equipment and tools are essential in any project, but of course we understand that everyone isn't in the same boat expertise-wise. This is why we spend time in working with our clients to try and narrow down their needs and help find the right tools. We invite anyone who is hesitant to get stuck into DIY because of a lack of know-how, to approach us for more information. It's all a lot more straightforward than it seems!'
