Phuket Marina to Offer Computerised Immigration Clearance

Phuket, Thailand -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/22/2010 -- Marine travellers to Phuket, who arrive at the new Chalong Marina, will soon be able to submit their registration documents electronically before reaching the port.

The new system, provided by Phuket’s Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA), should be completed by early February 2011.

SIPA’s goal is to reduce the time it takes travellers arriving in Phuket to fill out registration forms and to streamline Chalong Marina’s arrival procedures.

"The Marine Department, Immigration Bureau, and Customs are all responsible for each yacht, crew and cargo check-in. Each department has a different form for visitors to fill in and the problem is that it takes so much time for them to complete all three," commented SIPA project manager Pracha Asawateera.

"We are developing the system to bring all of the forms into one single document. Nearly forty percent of the information is repetitive, so this will save time," he added.

The new system will allow marine vessels to register with Thai authorities via the internet.

The five step process includes; general entry declaration, importer information, crew list, passenger list and cargo information.

After registering, vessels will be issued with an ID ticket via email, including an appointment time for owners, crew and passengers to report to the Chalong Marina in person.

Once the system is finished, a month of testing will begin.

"After the system is stable, we will be happy to conduct training seminars for tourists with program demonstrations," Mr Pracha concluded.
