Hallandale Beach, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/19/2011 -- Mardi Gras Casino will be hosting Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Wednesday, January 26th between 1:30 and 3:30 pm at the main entrance of Mardi Gras Casino and the Big Easy Poker Room Entrance. Everyone is welcome to come and purchase a cup of lemonade and help raise money to fight childhood cancer. The idea for Alex’s Lemonade Stand came from Alexandra “Alex” Scott, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday. By age four, Alex wanted to set up her own lemonade stand. Her plan was to give the money raised from the lemonade to her doctors to find a cure for the disease. Alex continued to set up lemonade stands every year and as news spread, people everywhere were inspired to start their own lemonade stands, donating the proceeds to Alex’s cause.
Every penny from the lemonade purchased at Mardi Gras Casino will go to help childhood cancer, one cup at a time.
About Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer
In 2004 when Alex passed away at the age of eight, her stand and inspiration had raised over $1 million towards finding a cure for the disease that took her life. Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by her parents in 2005 to continue the work that Alex began. Alex truly exemplified the saying “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade”, and since her first lemonade stand in 2000 the foundation has raised $35 million, with more than $12 million coming from the lemonade stands that have: funded cutting-edge research, created travel programs to help support children receiving treatment and develop resources to help people everywhere affected by childhood cancer.
