Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/01/2011 -- Hound.com, a job search engine, has reported over one million job openings which it has gathered directly from employer websites.

The site specializes in tracking down jobs listed on employer websites. Hound CEO A. Harrison Barnes explains the concept behind his firm’s unique approach. “A lot of jobs are not listed in the usual public job boards since those sites charge per job posting.

At Hound we have found that there are a lot of companies that advertise their openings only on their websites. It doesn’t cost them anything and they are not flooded with randomly fired off resumes.”

The site categorizes jobs by sector, state, and major cities. The site has over a hundred job categories, with thousands of jobs in each one. For instance there are 65,000+ customer service jobs, 33,000+ education jobs, 71,000+ engineering jobs, 37,000+ financial services jobs, and 80,000+ IT jobs. Other major categories include: 110,000+ retail jobs, 222,000+ healthcare jobs, 26,000+ accounting jobs, 15,000+ project management jobs, and 14,000+ food service jobs.

The jobs are spread across the country. There are over 82,000 jobs in California, 64,000 jobs in Texas, 34,000 jobs in New York, 52,000 jobs in Florida, and over 26,000 jobs in Illinois and Pennsylvania. There are also many jobs in smaller states such as Georgia with over 22,000 jobs and over 30,000 jobs in Virginia.

The Labor Department has reported that the initial jobless claims for the week ending February 12 were over 410,000. This means that the jobless Americans to available jobs ratio is 4.7 to 1. But Barnes says that the ratio does not reflect the true nature of the job market. “There are jobs available across the country and many businesses are unable to find enough qualified people. It’s just that a lot of people are not looking in the right places or are burned out from applying through the usual job boards.”

He further adds, “There are several small and medium sized businesses that are not able to shell out hundreds of dollars per job posting on the usual job boards. They are expecting candidates to come to their site and apply.”
